The Mystery of the Black Snakes
The story behind the experience
The Mystery of the Black Snakes is the very-first quest of games and riddles we created. It was requested by the City of Sainte-Adèle’s recreation department in summer 2019.
Sainte-Adèle wanted to focus attention on the recent investment they’d made in their cultural centre and surrounding park.
Their business goals:
- Offer an activity in the cultural space
- Showcase the city’s heritage (without making it a history lesson)
- Offer an open-air “escape game”
- Get both families and corporate clients interested in team-building activities
For this project, we developed a game concept that builds team spirit and calls on manual skills (game designed before COVID)
Our idea: DaVinci Code meets Sainte-Adèle.
We approached Christian Page, a journalist and speaker who specializes in investigations of unexplained phenomena and other mysteries, to help us develop a script that was captivating and realistic while also being mysterious.
The result? The Black Snakes secret society that has long been trying to alter Quebec’s history. Their goal: turn history to their advantage by infiltrating the highest echelons of power to destroy or alter historical documents, artefacts and accounts from the past. But a young intern uncovers the scheme and asks you (the participants) to stop this conspiracy.
The mission was simple: in 60 minutes, participants had to act to change the course of history before it was too late! They had to call on their deduction skills, dexterity and ability to communicate with their family or friends to crack the mystery of the Black Snakes through a series of challenges and riddles.
We created 2 levels of difficulty for each game: one for families with kids between 7 and 12 years old and a more difficult one that called on their skills of collaboration, communication and ability to manage priorities.
Synopsis
The conspiracy
The secret society of the Black Serpents has been trying for ages to alter the history of Quebec. His goal: to influence history to his advantage. To do this, it infiltrates the upper echelons of power in order to destroy or modify historical documents, artefacts and testimonies of the past. But a young trainee discovers the pot of roses and calls on you to stop the plot.
Your mission
You must therefore act to redirect the course of history before it is too late! You have 60 minutes to unravel the mystery of the Black Serpents. A series of challenges and puzzles will get you there. You will need to use your sense of deduction, your dexterity and your ability to communicate with your friends or family.
